Summary

Responsible for setting up and operating large boring machines.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Read blueprints, engineering drawings, and schematics to determine the sequence of machining operations.
  • Select, mount, and secure cutting tools and workpieces.
  • Set machine parameters such as feeds, speeds, and depth.
  • Inspect finished workpieces using precision measuring to ensure compliance with blueprint tolerances.
  • Maintain a clean workspace, perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment, and adhere to strict shop safety protocols.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • A strong grasp of applied shop math.

Education and/or Experience
Usually 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in manual or CNC machining.
Strong ability to read blueprints and understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
