Summary

A technical writer Supports, develops and coordinates activities related to implementing and maintaining customer documentation per customer requirements. Completes final screening of documentation prior to submitting it to customer. Support improvement activities for client Management Systems and perform process auditing.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Primary: Work with other team members to create and review content for new or revised Operation & Maintenance Manuals.

  • • Meet with team members on a weekly basis to review workload, current project status, and plan for week.
  • • Keep track of project statuses on the shop floor to schedule and perform documentation.
  • • Request appropriate support from Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production Control Department for all projects.
  • •Create and update documentation progress reports.
  • •Stay up to date on customer documentation specifications.
  • Advanced knowledge with recent software such as: o Windows 11, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Premiere.
  • Ability to read technical journals, abstracts, manuals and specifications in a timely manner with full comprehension.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently perform functions and duties of lower-level controls or mechanical engineering positions.
  • Fulfill documentation requests from customers and project managers.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job. Secondary: Travel to and perform training at customer facility using pre-prepared Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Training may involve daily travel to the customer facility or depending on location, overnight stay may be required. (Training can take place within the United States, Canada, Mexico, or other international locations).
  • Schedule training with other team members.
  • As part of the training activity, the trainer will be required to maintain record of the training dates, sign in sheets, and maintain the forms describing the topics covered during training (copies of the training forms are provided to customer and client upon completion of the scheduled training).
  • Onsite training is typically scheduled to take place over a consecutive multi-day period. In general, onsite training involves going over course materials in the classroom along with physical demonstrations at the equipment.

Education
Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must demonstrate working level knowledge of customer interface. Preferably experience working with FORD, FCA, GM and Tier-1 suppliers. Must demonstrate working level knowledge of ISO standard and APQP practices.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Business needs may require as a condition of continued employment for this position, working different shifts, positions, and/or overtime. A requirement of this position is that extended overnight business travel (domestic and/or international travel) may be necessary relating to responsibilities associated with the assigned projects. The different shifts and travel relate to any onsite training at the customer that may need to occur as well. Working on the manuals is the primary task, but a secondary task will be executing any on-site training purchased by the customer. We have found that on-site training has become less frequent.
