Summary

A MIG/TIG Welder is responsible for fabricating, joining, and repairing metal components (steel, aluminum, stainless steel) using Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) techniques. They read blueprints, set up equipment, and ensure high-quality, precise welds that meet safety standards. Key tasks include producing structural fabrications, inspecting finished welds, and cleaning materials

  • Making sure all parts are the right size and all pre-machining is done before tacking to the job.
  • Able to read tape measures in both inch and millimeters.
  • Has knowledge of welders, basic hand tools, saws, hand/plasma torches, iron workers, drill presses, brake and finger press.
  • Some Hilo driving skills would be great.
  • Operate MIG welding for faster, thicker metal production and TIG welding for precise, cleaner, or thinner material applications.
  • Read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, technical diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Configure welding machines, select correct filler materials, and adjust gas shielded mixtures.
  • Inspect finished welds for defects, structural soundness, and compliance with ASTM or ASME standards.
  • Cut, grind, and prep metal parts for assembly, including tack welding.
  • Maintain a clean work area and comply with all safety regulations, including wearing protective gear
Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 5 years related experience.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
